SMA – Type 1, is the number 1 genetic killer of children under the age of 2. And there is no cure! One in 40 persons are carriers for this disease. When 2 person with the SMA gene have a child, they have a 1 in 4 chance of having a child with SMA. In most cases, a family is not aware that they are carriers until a beautiful child is born, and as the baby grows, milestones are not met.
Georgia Lily was one of my precious granddaughters, and my greatest wish is that we find a cure for SMA. Funding research is the key.
The 2nd
annual Georgia’s Journey of Hope will be held on Sunday October 3rd. at Glenwood Community Club. For more
info go here or use the navigation on the right.
In conjunction with Georgia’s Journey of Hope, and to help
raise funds for Families of SMA Canada, I am asking for donations to this
worthwhile charity. My goal is to raise
$5,000.00 (updated from previous goal of $3,000 which has been achieved!)
Any and all donations to ‘Betty's Hair-Raiser for SMA’, will be most humbly and gratefully accepted. To donate online via credit card, please click on one of the following options:
Whichever option above raises the highest dollar amount, will be the hairdo I sport on Sunday, October 31st, 2010!
Tax receipts will be issued for all online donations (regardless of the amount); for donations made by cheque or cash a minimum of $20 is required to issue a tax receipt.
Thank you for hearing me out, and learning a little more about SMA.
