If you are still interested in donating, the Mohawk page on CanadaHelps will still accept donations for the next week or two.
And yes, the Mohawk is purple!!!  The colour was chosen by Calla and Maya.  And I love it!  Who would have thought.

Did I mention how truly awesome you are for supporting this cause to raise funds for much needed research into 'Spinal Muscular Atrophy'.  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

Georgia's Journey of Hope

On
April 21st, 2009, a beautiful baby girl, with the most soulful blue eyes, succumbed to a dreaded disease – SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy – Type 1).  Georgia Lily Lucas, who touched many lives in her wee life, was only 6 ½ months old when she earned her ‘Angel Wings’.

SMA – Type 1, is the number 1 genetic killer of children under the age of 2.  And there is no cure!  One in 40 persons are carriers for this disease.  When 2 person with the SMA gene have a child, they have a 1 in 4 chance of having a child with SMA.  In most cases, a family is not aware that they are carriers until a beautiful child is born, and as the baby grows, milestones are not met.

Georgia Lily was one of my precious granddaughters, and my greatest wish is that we find a cure for SMA.  Funding research is the key.

The 2nd annual Georgia’s Journey of Hope will be held on Sunday October 3rd. at Glenwood Community Club.  For more info go here or use the navigation on the right.

In conjunction with Georgia’s Journey of Hope, and to help raise funds for Families of SMA Canada, I am asking for donations to this worthwhile charity.  My goal is to raise $5,000.00 (updated from previous goal of $3,000 which has been achieved!)

Any and all donations to ‘Betty's Hair-Raiser for SMA’, will be most humbly and gratefully accepted.  To donate online via credit card, please click on one of the following options:

A)    Shave your hair off Betty!

B)     Get a Mohawk Betty!

C)    Keep your hair Betty.

Whichever option above raises the highest dollar amount, will be the hairdo I sport on Sunday, October 31st, 2010!

Tax receipts will be issued for all online donations (regardless of the amount); for donations made by cheque or cash a minimum of $20 is required to issue a tax receipt.

Thank you for hearing me out, and learning a little more about SMA.
